Combining Outdoor Advertising with Digital Marketing

5 min read · Updated 2026

Outdoor creates awareness. Digital captures the intent that awareness produces. Run separately they compete for budget; run together they compound.

The handover problem

Someone sees a hoarding, remembers the brand vaguely, and searches for it two days later. If nothing relevant appears in that search, the outdoor impression is wasted. That handover from impression to search is where most campaigns leak.

Planning them as one campaign

Three alignments do most of the work.

  • Same message — the search result should echo the headline on the panel
  • Same geography — concentrate digital targeting on the areas where the outdoor sites are
  • Same period — keep digital live for a short tail after the outdoor campaign ends

What to measure

Branded search volume, direct traffic and enquiry volume in the campaign geography are the most useful indicators. Compare them against a period before the campaign rather than against an industry benchmark.

A realistic expectation

No combination of formats guarantees a specific number of leads. What planning together does reliably is reduce the wastage between the two channels.
